New fishing rules no cause for panic

The first focus was on Little Rock, where memories still exist of the little, but popular, AGFC pond on the State Capitol grounds. Quite a few Arkansans who spent their formative years in Little Rock tell of riding bicycles and even city buses to fish in the midtown pond. That pond disappeared in the 1970s when the Capitol complex expanded and AGFC moved its headquarters to West Little Rock. Now there are 29 Family Fishing waters around the state. Most of them are accurately called ponds. The newest ones at Salem City Lake, Armory Pond in Magnolia and Mattocks Park Lake in El Dorado are now regulated as Family Fishing areas. Mike Freeze England Community Fishing Pond is now regulated with special community fishing regulations. The others are Benton City Lake, Cabot Community Pond, Wells Lake at Fort Smith, Mike and Janet Huckabee Youth Pond at Hope, Family Park at Hot Springs, Little Rock Air Force Base Pond at Jacksonville, Craighead Forest Youth Pond at Jonesboro, Lake Village Community Pond, Valencia Lake at Maumelle, Campbell Lake at Burns Park in North Little Rock, Martin Luther King Jr.

Pet Store "Horrified" and "Appalled" by Puppy Mills

All of our puppies are given health checks by our store veterinarian when they become part of our family and before joining their new families. Our puppies are all sold with a health warranty, and are not available to go home to their new families until they have been cleared by a veterinarian. It has been brought to our attention that our permit to sell animals has expired and we have remedied this issue. The permit fee went inadvertently unpaid due to a clerical error. Upon completion of an inspection by Animal Services, which is scheduled for Thursday, Pets of Bel Air will reopen.Pets of Bel Air has been a trusted neighborhood business for many years. Every employee at Pets of Bel Air is an animal lover, as evidenced by the care and love we show our puppies and kittens each day; the healthy environment we provide; and the respect we show each of you.

Cal State Fullerton junior Josh Akognon is back in his 3-point shooting groove after a mini-slump. The transfer from Washington State is second in the conference in scoring, 3-pointers made and free-throw percentage.

Biggest shoes to fill

How do you fill eight pairs of shoes? Morris isn't sure, but the transfer from Fresno State is doing his best to fill several roles at Long Beach State, which was left depleted by nine seniors.

Volunteering remains a popular pastime in Pitt County

Local officials say Pitt County residents are bucking a nationwide trend of people volunteering less.

The U.S. Department of Labor reported last week the number of people who volunteered for an organization at least once between September 2006 and September 2007 decreased for a second straight year.

RUMOR HAS IT...

From avian flu to spoiled vaccines, sex gum to sex scandals, society loves nothing more than a juicy rumor. While most everyone agrees the alternative reality rumormongers weave can be a bit distracting, is a proposed government authority to fight gossip really the answer? .

On the city’s extra money, Measure 49, Presidential candidate ...

They encouraged unsound lending for subprime mortgages and unsustainable credit card debt. Our government has borrowed money to support reckless spending on an immoral war for oil rather than calling for sacrifice.Instead of prosperity, the result will be an uncomfortable downturn in our standard of living. We need an economy that can be widely shared so that nobody must go without the basic necessities of life: food, housing, health care, education and retirement. Our tax policies should more adequately support those ends.Gross national product shouldn't be our only measure of economic success.Let us also measure how well we do by our youth, our elderly, our minorities, and persons or limited ability. The Ghana High Commission in Ottawa Saga: The Real Truth

He “defected" from the house on Thursday November 15, 2007, a few hours after he got his pay cheque.

There is allegation from the “Rumour Mill" story that the High Commissioner has taken some eight thousand dollars from the cook. The fact of the matter from investigations is that he had been given accommodation at the High Commissioner's Residence. He cooked and ate there. He used the toileteries there. For all his living expenses, he was charged CDN500 a month. Is that too much to ask? Now that he is out of the house, he is going to be paid a maximum of CDN679.00 a month welfare allowance by the government of Canada. Compare that to the CDN2050 he was paid every month working for the High Commissioner. I believe that when the reality kicks in he will realize that those that advised him to take the action he did had deceived him.
