Surging to Bosnia? Is it possible that the "surge" is actually a fairly logical political precursor to a U.S.-aided Bosnia-like partition along the lines suggested by Michael O'Hanlon and Edward Joseph? If you listen to Anne Garrels' report from Baghdad, you'll hear U.S. soldiers attempting to reassure Sunnis threatened by Shiite militias (and by the Shiite-dominated Iraqi Army units with which we are supposedly cooperating in the surge). The Sunnis appear to regard the Americans as legitimate protectors. Today, the Americans tell them they will try to keep them from being chased out of the neighborhood. ("I will talk to the Iraqi Army tonight,"the American captain promises.) Tomorrow, if the surge fails, will the Americans tell the Sunnis "We're sorry. We tried. We made things a bit safer, but we can't really protect you.
Diet won't stop me having fun
When I got back home, I took Rocky out for a walk and Steve made beef stir fry for tea with loads of vegetables. One good side effect of my new healthy regime is that the whole family is eating better. We are buying fresh food every day and not buying so many sweets and junk food. I will have a piece of fruit rather than a biscuit and no longer crave crisps after a particularly horrible experiment - one of our experts set fire (don’t try this at home) to a single crisp and you should have seen the fat that oozed out of it. It was truly disgusting and has put me off crisps for life. I’m planning on a big walk tomorrow and will try and do a bit of running as well. I do have such a lot more energy and I feel much better. I hope you do too.

Who ensures the safety of pet food?
The FDA and state feed program officials regulate the industry, but it's largely self-policing. Pet food companies set their own standards for testing raw ingredients and finished products, said Greg Aldrich, an animal nutritionist with Pet Food & Ingredient Technology of Topeka, and a consultant to pet food companies. They may test raw ingredients themselves, or they may rely on suppliers to show that raw ingredients are up to snuff, said Sakharam Patil of SK Patil & Associates, a consulting firm for pet and human food. Typically, companies will take samples from random lots of raw products and test them. They look to make sure the product is what it is supposed to be, that it's free of foreign objects, that bacteria levels are low and that it's free of dangerous mycotoxins, poisons produced by molds or fungi, said Peter Clark, a food-processing consultant in Oak Park, Ill.
Clinton Follows Rove Playbook
Barrack Hussein Obama attended Muslim schools. His parents are Muslims. Why is showing him and his heritage a low blow. That is his background. Why is it a problem that both Obama and Hate monger L. Farrkhan, from the nation of islam leader.. share the same pastor and advisor. In fact Farrakhan came out in the news today for B Hussein.. I am surprised however that Obama is a smoker of cigarettes in this day and age, but Im sure that wont take time out of his day .. to take him from his job at the office. I do like how Obama feels comfortable in the Kenyan attire above..He looks good like his dad.. Perhaps he may move himself and others to Kenya.. and thereby leave the rest of us here who actually pay taxes .. to run the country.
V8(R) 100% Vegetable Juice Celebrates 75 Years of Vegetable Nutrition
CAMDEN, N.J., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Who knew V8(R) juice was ahead of its time when it was created 75 years ago! In 1933 an entrepreneur with a vision for vegetable nutrition created a unique, convenient and great-tasting way for people to drink their vegetables. Today, finding ways to get your veggies is more relevant than ever with 9 out of 10 U.S. adults not getting the recommended amount of vegetables and fruit each day(1). While vegetables have always been an important part of a healthful diet, today a growing body of science links vegetable intake to many health benefits, including helping to reduce risk for heart disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancer. Some studies also suggest that the antioxidants in vegetables may have anti-aging effects. As people lead more active lifestyles, V8 100% vegetable juice provides an easy way to get two servings of vegetables (one cup) in just one 8-ounce glass.
Extra! UIdaho Student Found Shot to Death
The hospital was in what appeared to be a somewhat residential area of Colfax, and it was not fenced-off. We did not see any "no trespassing" signs, and most of the entrances to the building were unlocked or even wide open. Inside was an absolute mess. It was clear we were far from the first to explore, as graffiti covered many of the walls. However, the worst mess came from the hospital staff and residents who left quite a few belongings behind. The hallways and rooms were littered with broken glass, peeled wallpaper, etc. We even found a case with trophies still in it, framed photos, and, in one room, several unopened packages of adult diapers. In a desk we found handwritten letters written by an elderly woman. In the main hallway of the first floor was an empty biohazard canister. .
Business ban bill clears Senate with big margin
A bill to ban lawmakers from doing business with the state won lopsided Senate approval Friday after backers soothed objections raised earlier this week. The measure, Senate Bill 1, cleared the Senate 36-1. It next faces action in the House and is one of the key bills in Gov. Bobby Jindal’s special session ethics package. The lone "no" vote was cast by Sen. Derrick Shepherd, D-New Orleans. Sens. Yvonne Dorsey, D-Baton Rouge and Rob Marionneaux, D-Grosse Tete were absent. Under current law, lawmakers, their spouses and their companies can enter into contracts with the state that are negotiated or competitively bid. The bill would generally ban that. The immediate families of lawmakers, which include brothers and sisters, could only do business with the state through competitively bid contracts.
Fair orgainzers get to heart of women's health
Carmen Gomez waited patiently inside an exhibit hall at the Dallas Convention Center on Saturday. "If you want to live longer, you need to keep up with your numbers," she said. The numbers Ms. Gomez was waiting for were results from her blood work. She would later sit down with student from Baylor University Medical Center for a private consultation. Ms. Gomez was one of about 1,500 women who were expected to receive free health screenings Saturday at The Women's Heart Health Fair, presented by the Sister to Sister Foundation. The group, armed with doctors, presenters and medical equipment, wanted to increase awareness of heart disease in women. Ms. Gomez, who lives in Haltom City, said her participation was "all about health." "This has helped me eat healthier and get regular checkups," she said.
Book Sheds New Light on Baboon Social Scene
He wrote it on August 16, 1838, almost two years after returning from his voyage on the Beagle and 21 years before the publication of The Origin of Species. It was a time of vigorous intellectual activity, when Darwin read voraciously on many subjects, both within and beyond the sciences, and met and talked with many different people, from family friends to prominent literary and political figures. Despite this active intellectual life, however, it seems unlikely that he or anyone else had ever combined the words "baboon" and "metaphysics" in the same sentence. What was Darwin thinking? Mind and behavior in Darwin's time The Cambridge English Dictionary defines metaphysics as "the part of philosophy that is about understanding existence and knowledge." Writing in the Westminster Review in 1840, John Stuart Mill offered a summary of views on the origin of knowledge that were being discussed by Darwin and his contemporaries.
